Chancel Choir Christmas Concert with Orchestra
December 18, 2006
William Shortal, Music Director

O tidings of comfort and joy” ends the familiar refrain of the beloved Christmas Carol, God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen. From this phrase comes the title of our annual Chancel Choir Christmas concert with orchestra, Comfort and Joy. The 70 voice choir and 45 piece orchestra present a collection of glorious music of Christmas that includes many familiar carols in grand arrangements and original works by some of the most creative musical minds of our time. Interspersed with the carols will be the Christmas story in scripture and inspiring stories read by our program’s narrator. The hour and fifteen minute program is free of charge to congregation and community and is sponsored by the Friends of Music.

Among the familiar carols offered on the program are O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, Joy to the World, The First Noel, Hark, the Herald Angels Sing and God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen. In addition to the familiar carols are works by important contemporary composers John Rutter, Mack Wilberg, Eric Whitacre, David Willcocks, Morten Laurisdsen and Daniel Pinkham.

Please join us for a beautiful evening of sacred music in the beauty of our sanctuary at Christmas. Adding to your interest will be the great variety presented. You will hear music for string orchestra, brass ensemble, harp, a capella choir, women’s voices, men’s voices, organ, percussion ensemble and bagpipes. Every new tune will be a new listening experience.

Chancel Choir Christmas Concert with Orchestra
December 12, 2005

The glorious music of Christmas will fill the sanctuary on December 12th at 7:30 p.m. when the Chancel Choir presents its annual Christmas program with orchestra. This year’s concert is titled Hodie – Christ Is Born Today. The Latin word “Hodie” means “today” and is the first word of a Latin Christmas text, Hodie Christus Natus Est, that has inspired composers from antiquity through the present age. Hodie is also the title of one of the extended choral works on the program, written by contemporary American composer, Z. Randall Stroope.

Four Centuries of Choral Music
Monday, April 25, 2005 - 7:30 p.m.

Baroque-Classical-Romantic-Twentieth Century- Which is your favorite? You will be able to hear music from each of these great eras at the Chancel Choir concert on Monday, April 25, 7:30 p.m. in our Sanctuary

The title, "Four Centuries of Choral Music," tells it all as we feature the short works of Handel, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Clausen and Chilcott. Each composer represents the best music from their historical period. The tour through the ages will be an interesting look at the changing styles in these almost four-hundred years. From harpsichords to marimbas, string orchestra to brass choirs, we will hear great music that represents the life and times of eras past and present.
